2027 Garden Shares

A garden share is a season of vegetables, reserved ahead of time. You pay before the seeds go in the ground, and in return you eat from our five acres between Pakenham and Almonte from the middle of June to the middle of October — tomatoes chosen for flavour instead of shelf life, greens cut the morning you collect them, garlic from eleven heirloom varieties, and whatever else the season decides to be generous with.

For 2027 we’ve made this simpler than it has been. There used to be shares, half shares, add-ons and a few arrangements that only really made sense if you’d been with us for years. Now there are two ways to take a garden share — come to the farm, or meet us in town — and the same three sizes inside each one. Pick the way that fits your week, then pick how much you eat.

The Open Garden Share

Farm pick-up. You choose your own. Free flowers.
This is the one we’d point you toward first, and it’s the best value on the page. Come to the farm each week, look at what’s ready, and take what you’ll actually eat. Nothing is packed for you and nothing is decided for you. If your household goes through six bunches of kale and no beets, that’s a perfectly good way to run a share.

The pick-your-own flower bed is free to Open Garden members all season. Bring scissors, cut what you like.

The Traditional Garden Share

Delivered to town. We pack it, you collect it.
If the drive to the farm doesn’t fit your week, we’ll bring your share to Dandelion Foods in Almonte or The Granary in Carleton Place. We pack these ourselves, which means you get what’s best that week rather than what you might have picked. It’s the older way of doing a CSA, and there’s a real pleasure in cooking from what turns up.

For larger households, or for people who cook everything. Twelve items of your own choosing every week, right through the season. In the past the Bountiful Feast was a twelve-week add-on that ended on Labour Day. In 2027 it runs the entire eighteen weeks, and it stands on its own — it is no longer an add-on to anything.

There will be fewer things to choose from in June when the garden is just warming up, and more than you can carry in August when everything is abundant — but what goes in your bag is always your call.

Nine items a week, chosen by us. You get what’s best that week rather than what you might have picked — the tomatoes at the peak of their few good days, the salad mix the morning it’s ready, the last of the beans before they’re finished.

About our prices

Our prices are up this year, and we’d rather explain that than hope nobody notices.

Everyone who works here gets a five percent raise every year. That’s deliberate. Farm labour in this country runs on people being paid less than the work is worth, and that is a business model we chose to sidestep — not least because our staff are the backbone that makes our operation possible, and training new staff every season makes it challenging. Seed, compost, fuel, packaging and the cost of keeping a truck on the road go up as well.

A farm that doesn’t cover those costs isn’t really a farm. It’s a hobby with a vegetable stand. We’d rather charge what this actually costs and still be here in ten years.

The Open Garden Share is the least expensive way to eat with us, and it’s less expensive for an honest reason: you do the picking, so we don’t.

Winter 2027 Garden Share

Not for sale. Reserve a Bountiful Feast or Classic — either way you collect it — before Thanksgiving, and you’re in.
Here’s exactly what it is: at the end of the season we take everything left in the walk-in cooler and divide it evenly among everyone who qualified. Some years that’s a serious haul of squash, onions, carrots and potatoes. Some years it’s more modest. It depends entirely on how the autumn went, and we’d rather tell you that plainly than dress it up.

It’s our thank-you for committing early. Deposits taken before mid-October are what let us order seed and plan the season with any confidence, and we’d rather reward that than run a sale in the spring.

Pick-up is Sunday, October 31, 2027, 9am-noon, at our Apple, Garlic and Storage Crops Blow-Out Sale — so you can collect your winter share and stock up for the year in one trip.

All produce is in season. Availability of specific items within categories will fluctuate with the season. Early season shares will have heavier weightings of greens. Mid season shares will have more nightshades, cucurbits and legume choices. Late season shares will have heavier weightings of roots and brassicas.
