The Market Share
A prepaid card you spend however you like, wherever you find us.If you’re already at the market most Saturdays, the Market Share is simply the version of a garden share that fits how you actually live. You buy the card once, and then you shop the way you’d shop anyway — no set pick-up day, no box to collect, and nothing to reschedule if you’re away.
It also runs far longer than any garden share. The garden shares start in the middle of June and finish in October. A Market Share starts at the first market in May and runs through to Hallowe’en.
Every card comes with garlic, and the bigger the card the more of it. One pound with an Essential, three with a Classic, five with a Bountiful Feast — from the same eleven heirloom varieties we grow for seed, the ones we’d plant ourselves rather than the ones left over. It’s ready for you in August, once the crop is out of the ground and cured. That garlic is the difference between a Market Share and simply turning up with cash. Everything else you buy at the same price as anyone standing behind you in the line.

The largest card we issue, and the one for a household that does most of its shopping at the market. Nine hundred dollars buys a thousand dollars of food: twenty-five market Saturdays and seven event days to spend it across, and five pounds of heirloom garlic on top. It counts as three of the sixty cards we release.

The smallest card, and the sensible place to start if you’re feeding one or two people or you’ve never held a card before. Enough to keep you in vegetables across the season without committing to a weekly rhythm, plus a pound of garlic. It counts as one of the sixty.
Where your card works
Everywhere we sell — both farmers markets, all three garlic festivals, the spring seedling sale and the October blow-out, every one of them listed below. Twenty-five Saturdays and seven event days, from May to Hallowe’en.Not at the farm stand — and that’s in your favour
Our Thursday and Saturday farm stand is stocked for Garden Share members, out of the same harvest that fills their shares.Your vegetables are a separate cut. We harvest for the market on Friday, after the garden shares have gone out, so that what’s on the table when you arrive on Saturday morning came out of the ground the day before. That’s only possible because the two supplies are kept apart — one harvest for the members on Thursday, a fresh one for the market on Friday.
So the card isn’t valid at the farm stand. It’s not a restriction we’ve bolted on; it’s the reason your lettuce is still cold.
Use it by the end of the season
Balances don’t carry into the following year. We’d rather say that plainly at the start than surprise you with it in November.That’s why the season is as long as it is, and why the card works at the festivals and farm events as well as at the markets. The last two land back to back: the final Carp market on Saturday October 30, and the Blow-Out Sale on Sunday October 31.
That closing weekend is designed for exactly this. If you reach the end of October with more on the card than you meant to, come and fill the car.
If you’d rather not think about a balance at all, a garden share is the simpler arrangement: you pay once and the vegetables just arrive.
We’re releasing sixty
We don’t sell an unlimited number of Market Shares, and that isn’t a sales tactic.Our stall is only as big as what fits in the truck, and what fits in the truck is decided by what came out of the ground on Friday. If we sold cards to everyone who wanted one, cardholders would start arriving to a picked-over table at eleven o’clock — the opposite of what they paid for. So we cap it at a number the harvest can actually support.
Sixty cards, counted in $300 units — a Classic takes two of them, a Bountiful Feast takes three. When they’re gone, they’re gone until next year.

Collecting your card
Your card is waiting for you at the market — bring nothing, we’ll have it ready.When you reserve we’ll ask which market you expect to use most. That’s partly so we know where to leave your card, and partly so we know how much to load into the truck for each one.
Pick it up the first Saturday you come, and start spending it that morning if you like.
How to reserve
Before January 31 — reserve with a $100 deposit, balance due end of April.From February 1 — cards are paid in full at the time of purchase.

The Market Share is the most flexible thing we sell, but it isn’t the cheapest way to eat from this farm.If you’re happy to commit to a weekly rhythm, the Open Garden Share gets you more food for your money — you come to the farm, choose your own items, and cut flowers from the pick-your-own bed all season at no charge.
